    Bonkers Bokeh

I was gifted a couple of old Pentacon 50mm f1.8 lenses recently so ordered an adapter to bung them on my Fuji X-T1. I have been after a lens like this for a while as they have very distinctive - harsh some might say - out of focus rendering but it is a look I love. On the subject of love I may have already fallen head over heels in love with them as the results I got whilst out with the dog this morning were everything I had hoped for.

All shot with the older of the two lenses which has a faulty aperture that is stuck wide open - which is handy as wide open is exactly where I want to use it. Manual focus was helped by the X-T1's dual view EVF and focus peaking though a windy day made chasing daffodils frustrating.

    See what you think...

Nice to see old lenses are still in use. Think you missed the focus on the second image, but you know that.

I especially like the first image, nice colors , composition and bokeh I would clone the piece of stalk on the left side of the flower.

I can see how this might be appealing but, it is not my favorite type of bokeh. Sort of looks to me like the results from mirror lenses which were quite popular in the 1980's through 1990's. However, I love experimenting with different lenses. Reversing one of these Pentacon lenses might provide really neat macro effects...

    Ooo - now that's a good idea.

I've seen some people using them with tubes to good effect so might try both.

I like the first two. They call to mind impressionism.

Thats the kind of look I'm after. Its not a lens for technical work more for finding the right subject and having a bit of fun. I'm on the look out for a Helios 58mm f2 next as it has a very strong circular swirl to the edge bokeh.
