This photo is of the same two spatulas used to make the first photo. One primary difference about the lighting is that in this photo the top spatula is lit to be darker than the bottom spatula. Another difference is that the background is the darkest part of the image whereas the tabletop in the other image was displayed in mid tones. The third difference is that in this image both spatulas are lit to display their texture whereas in the other image only the top spatula was lit that way.

Setup
The background is black velvet. Two spatulas of the exact same model are positioned with their flat sides perpendicular to the floor. They are lit from above by a small continuous-light lamp.

It's not rust but it is another type of discoloration. I would venture a guess that if I hadn't explained that the subjects are spatulas that you would probably think the pattern is made of wood and wouldn't be asking about rust. Too bad we'll never know for sure.
