Guatemala: Forest setting of Tikal National Park

I shared sunset images of ruins at Tika Naitonal Park here. I thought it would be fun to share in this thread the experience visitors have of exploring everything amid the forest environment. Two of the photos show that we were blessed with a mild mist during our only early morning visit of the site. Unfortunately, we got no photos of the Howling monkeys that are so loud they kept us awake at night.

That was especially true while everything was shrouded in the morning mist.

I have looked at the other thread referred to by Mike (see above) and find the whole set makes up a superb gallery that conveys an excellent sense of the location. That being so, you then have to say this is, therefore, excellent travel photography.

The two images that I have copied above encapsulate that for me. High quality photography that informs and educates.

One thing that strikes me about ruins is that so often we continue to let the natural forces of weather and regrowth reclaim them and slowly destroy them. I would love to see some of them completely restored to our best estimate of what they looked like in their heyday. For example many Roman ruin are impressive in their own right, but they must have been way more imposing when they were intact, decorated and had furniture in them. Even if in the odd place they built a replica of the original ruin but as it was... Maybe there are some but I am not aware of any... Does anyone know of any such???

    Thank you, Donald!

Sorry, Trev, but I don't know of any replicas of Mayan ruins. That doesn't mean they don't exist.
