    Sunsets in the Canary Islands

One of the pleasures of landscape photography is viewing sunsets; I can't imagine how many I have missed in my lifetime simply because I was not practising photography as a hobby.

Here are some photos taken when I was in the Gran Canarias last week.

These three were taken at Tejeda

#3. The mountain in the distance is El Teide, which is on another island - Tenerife.

+1 to John's comment. The Tejeda shots are really special to me - they look like paper collages, especially #2.

My thought was that they looked posterized. I take it that the pastel effects were due to haze. One would think that out in the Atlantic, that the atmosphere was clear. However, in this case, the haze has had a greatly beneficial effect on your images. They are really stunning.

The haze is due to the Arican dust, which drifts across to the Canary Islands. No special post-processing was done to create or enhance the look; in fact, I applied a small amount of de-haze in Lightroom to show a bit more detail in the mountains. The views were indeed stunning - something I don't often see.

Beautiful set of captures. I really like the recession in the first three, the first and second in particular.

Yes, my favourite is #1 too, followed by #4. I've never realized how beautiful sunsets are until we traveled to Reno and I cannot access my camera. All I did was look. So beautiful sunsets and early morning sunrise are most beautiful because the colours are. You did very well in these. I like the compositions.

Thanks to you all for your comments. I particularly like it when people have different favourites; I often struggle to decide which, if any, are objectively good photos, because I am inherently biased in when evaluating them. That's why this forum is so helpful.
