Mother Nature has no favourites.
Before this Orchard Butterfly caterpillar could pupate a predator found it - utterly defenceless.

There are so many species of flies, wasps and bees where the larvae live as parasites inside other creatures, to say nothing of other risks ranging from spiders to birds. But somehow, sufficient numbers manage to survive and produce the next generation.
