Montreal skyline
Our recent visit to Montreal was one of rain and general dullness - not great for photography. But sometimes that in itself provides a adequate challenge. My focus was to try and capture people in the context of a wintry city - I normally avoid having people in my photos !
The results were mixed. But I like these two
Out in the Cold
and
In from the Cold (in the museum of Beaux Arts)
C&C appreciated

Re: Montreal skyline
The first one has good clarity for a dull day and that person in the bottom left corner gives an indication of scale and perspective while leading the view deeper into the scene.
I'm not so keen on the angle of the second image though. It gives the impression of having a floor on a steep slope. Maybe if the verticals were upright? A difficult scene whatever you do though. Also, some people were moving faster than your shutter speed could handle.

Re: Montreal skyline
Nice efforts, both tightly cropped but each has enough info to enjoy the view.

Re: Montreal skyline
The first shot is of the Bonsecours Market and I have not had any luck photographing that site. The main problem is that we tend to head down to Montreal in good weather (i.e. late spring through early fall) and that area of the city gets super busy at that time of year. While I do like getting people into my shots, I do prefer a limited number.
You managed to get a decent shot in spite of the uninteresting sky. The stones of the building somehow seem to take on the colour of the sky and that seems to have worked out very well for you.

Re: Montreal skyline
So difficult to get good photos in dull
I like the first one though, the building is beautiful and the man walking does cause me to follow his supposed path.
Nice work
Montreal is a City I have always wanted to see.

Re: Montreal skyline
Thanks all for comments and encouragement. Sharon - Montreal is a lively city, not particularly beautiful, but we like it and will go again as we have family there.

Re: Montreal skyline
I like the first shot very much. It expresses the dullness of the drama of the place. You've succeeded in showing us that. Good job.
