    Extremely rare bird sighted.

    The Fish-faced Anhinga.

It's unique appearance gives it the edge while hunting underwater.

I needed the second photo to understand the first one. That was a timely capture.

    Here is another.
    Extremely rare bird sighted.

This bird was pretty far out on the pond and I was basically just using my 200-500mm to watch the action. The trigger finger couldn't help but keep in practice. I don't think I can do much with these for competition but thought the fish face was funny. From a naturalists perspective they show the Anhinga fishing technique. In this case it caught a bigger fish than usual and was having a bit of trouble getting into a good position.

Smaller fish are a lot easier to handle.

Great capture! That's a pretty impressive sized fish to put down in a single gulp.

That is especially true when gulping down a finned fish. Wrong way down could cause some serious problems.

    Nice captures...

I didn't know there was such a competition. I followed your link and it's closed now but I have a couple of other shots too.

Sorry...it was fun though. Perhaps it is something to watch out for next time. I had enjoyed so much beauties you had uploaded since I joined this forum.
