I love them both because I am a fan of the French impressionists and these are lovely images. I tried image #1 cropping out the lighter area in the upper left and resulting in a rather narrow rectangular image. However, I like it a bit better that way...
How do you get the frame that looks so three dimensional?

No:1 I love for its beautiful rich colours. I do find No: 2 too busy, with nowhere for my eyes to rest in order to take in the scene. Maybe it would work better if some of the over-hanging branches were in shot to provide a focus lock, rather than all reflections. On the other hand, maybe it's just fine as it is. What do I know?

I like #1 very much.
The problem I have with #2 is that the focus appears to be on the reflection in the water, rather than the lily pad on the top, and it causes my eyes to go searching for a focus point.

Thanks all. The focus on the water reflections was necessary to get the impressionist look. I found this out a couple of months ago by mistake. Besides if I had focused on the lilies it would have just been another lily pond shot

Apologies Richard. I put together a tutorial HERE.It is a bit long winded but I have got the process down to a few seconds in GIMP. The instructions are specific to GIMP but I would imagine Photoshop is very similarHow do you get the frame that looks so three dimensional?
