    Eggs

Repeating patterns are a powerful compositional tool. I guess stacked flats of eggs quality as repeating patterns. The multi-coloured flats caught my eye.

This shot was taken near Bangalore's Russel Market on the afternoon of my last day in India.

This may be like a Rorschach test but I see the containers as being the very nice patterns rather than the eggs. Regardless, I like the bright colors and the patterns.

When I traveled recently in Belize and Guatamale, I noticed that grocery stores store the eggs in areas that are not refrigerated, unlike in America where they are always stored in refrigerated areas. I notice the eggs in the image are also not refrigerated.

I read something quite interesting on that topic a few weeks back. Eggs are refrigerated in the USA, Canada and Japan because they are required to be washed to reduce the risk of Salmonella infections. This washing removes a protective coating from the eggs, hence they need to be refrigerated. Salmonella outbreaks in these three countries prompted this requirement.

European countries and most of the rest of the world have no such regulations. The the protective coating intact, the eggs can be stored without refrigeration for a week to 10 days.

The randomness in the egg crate colours is what attracted me to take this shot. Sameness is not as interesting, I think.

Perhaps but the sight of those stacks of eggs is also a wonder and the inclusion of the seller is a good balance. He looks at peace with the world doesn't he?
