One more Robber Fly: Mistress of All

    Mistress Of All

Robber flies find this dead branch irresistible. It is rare indeed when there are not two or three resting on it.

Nice capture! Do you have a reference book to identify the insects or do you just know them off the top of your head?

Another well done image Brian. I like the shot but I also like the colors. The background is nicely blurred out too.

You were lucky to have it staying immobile during 1s for your shot and get it so sharp.

Very nice Brian Are those colors real or is there a blue-purple color cast?

The bg is one of the walls of my house and it is about 3 meters behind the fly. The fly has amazing colours and it was late afternoon with some nice shadows on the wall.

The Robber Fly is an assassin. As long as I stay out of their I'm out of here zone (about 8 inches) they are like a statue.

I wondered the same thing. But it was late afternoon with shadows on the wall. The Robber Fly has a blue body. If you look through the wings the blue is not there. I believe the colours are reasonably accurate. Nevertheless my eyes have been acting up and I have had to make adjustments to where I sit and which glasses I use so it is possible that I messed things up.

Beautiful colored fly then Well, may be you played with the hue and saturation sliders for blue color in PP and that's why blues look nice and strong in the image.
