These are lovely shots though I find the over-abundance of color too much to take it all at once. Perhaps on your next visit you can concentrate on one boat or a part of one.

The first one is excellent. Maybe the second image appears to be a fraction on the 'harsh side' with colour and sharpening? Possibly just the light angle?

My thoughts are as Geoff's; I found the second a bit too contrasty and saturated, perhaps just the black point is too low.

The first works well for me, including the composition.

Prefer #1 too but I agree with Chris' comments as many boats and the mud becomes too overwhelming.

I find it curious that my second shot is ''overwhelming''. It is a real time shot of the harbour and if one were standing on the quay in the sun, would one feel so overwhelmed and have to look away ?

I understand your point, Andy, and I think it is the slightly over-strong contrast and saturation that are over-whelming, rather than the number of colourful boats and floats.

I like the first photo and, for me, the second photo is improved by making it just about the boats. Therefore if it were mine, I would crop off the top, down to just above the radar of the top boat, to remove those bright blue containers along the quay.

When you are looking at a scene that dynamic, your eye tends to focus on one or two specifics and not just the whole scene. However, when you look through a viewfinder, your visual cues tend to broaden to a wider scope. Next time you get there, test my theory out and see if I am not right.
