    Sunrise After the Snow Storm

I took this photo last Saturday morning about one hour after sunrise. We had gotten 21 cm of snow in the previous 24 hours beating a 40 years record for snowfall this late in March. The fresh snow and the sunrise combined to created a wonderfully peaceful scenery. The dramatic sky disappeared less than ten minutes after I took the photo. As for the snow, most of it has already melted away.

I thought that I would share this:

Nice shot but for me it could be down to the left side (without the bare fir) just to keep a snowy landscape.
    BTW very nice sky.

Jean, I had considered the crop that you suggested but opted to keep the bush in to keep the focal point of the picture from being too close to the left edge of the frame. I am however considering cropping a little from the bottom of the frame to get a slightly more panoramic ratio and place more emphasis on the sky.

I would welcome your opinion on this alternate crop.

    Thanks for your input.

    Nice image Andre.

I remember waking up on last Saturday and diving straight back under the covers, pretending the snowfall hadn't happened. There still seems to be more snow on the ground than there was when I returned home from being abroad a couple of weeks ago.

I see that Environment Canada is calling for 5 cm / 2 in of snow tomorrow and the possibility of more on Saturday (Apr 1)...

    Welcome to Canada.

I prefer the excellent first version Andre. There is a (suggestion of) a nice triangle at the left, formed by "your" bush/tree, the other trees and the shape of the snow banks.

    Thanks Manfred.

The latest forecast is for 15 cm of new snow by Saturday morning but I wouldn't worry too much about it. It will all melt away by Sunday. I won't even get my shovel out.

    Welcome back

Thank you Bill. The more I look at the picture, the more shapes and lines seem to show up.

    Jean,

The scene, as I see it, basically has only three dominant colors; blue, white and green. I don't quite understand why you find that one of the green trees distract from the harmony of the scene.

I do, however, appreciate you taking the time to analyse my photo and provide constructive feedback.

    Thanks.

Thanks Andre - it was +35° C when I left India and around -10°C when I arrived in Ottawa. A 45°C temperature difference in the space of around 24 hours definitely came as a shock to the body.

Yes, I see the weather forecast. The 5 cm / 2 inches of snow that were supposed to fall over night didn't happen, so I'm cautiously optimistic that we might not get as much as the forecast says we will.

And all we got here in the MidWest were two snow days that didn't even last at all. I am not complaining...I am happy just where we are...Anyway, I like the original one André. I like the whole scene with all it's triangles and the houses in between. Do me a favour and keep the snow where you are. I can feel the cold just looking at your shot.
