    Portrait of a lovely lady...

I didn't like this image in color because of the royal-blue swaths in her hair. But, I think that she looks quite good in monochrome...

That she does, nicely captured and processed.

Chauncey, you pegged it on the "eyes of Sophia Loren"! I kept looking at her and thinking that I had seen her someplace before. I did, in the movies
She is from Italy and is probably intentionally cultivating the "Sophia Loren Look". However, that is not a bad look to cultivate

    Portrait of a lovely lady...

Both were shot using a 70-200mm f/4L IS lens (my favorite people lens) with a diffused fill flash in a Stroboflash camera flip bracket. There was some dappled light in the above portrait which, IMO, is somewhat mitigated by the fill flash...

    Richard,
Can't speak to the issue of colour versus monochrome because we don't see the original, but with respect to this shot, I'm bothered by the uneven lighting which I find to be unflattering, especially across her teeth where there are diagonal lines crossing her two Central Incisors.
There are catchlights in both eyes, but I wonder if they were added after, as had you used flash, I assume the lighting across the subject's face would be more even.
Again, we don't know the circumstances under which this was taken, but had the subject been placed in open shade, I think the result would have been better.

Robert, I can see your point... This was a grab shot of a very pretty lady. I did not have the opportunity of setting her up for the portrait or choosing the location..

    Richard,
    Fair enough.
Always difficult to second guess candid photography when viewing it from distances of time and space.

A lovely candid portrait indeed, Richard. I do get the resemblance to Sophia Loren.
