    Milford Sound, Majestic Grandeur

Milford Sound, Majestic Grandeur, well I think it has. But I would welcome your thoughts on this.

    Edited following your feedback.

#1 The original image as posted and commented on.

    #2 Adjusted crop and saturation.

#3 A bonus image for you all including a couple of the cruise vessels for an indication of scale.

This is an odd one Peter,

I'm sure the place is lovely and feel this composition ought to be good, but with that lighting, I'm afraid it just isn't working for me. I think the clouds and colours are both creating an unbalanced, some might say 'dramatic' view of what feels (to me) as if it should be a peaceful scene, I'm struggling to explain it in any more detail though.

I'll be interested to hear the views of others.

    Re: Milford Sound, Majestic Grandeur

I'm always loathe to comment on colour in images as I do have a colour-blindness and could get it badly wrong. However, on the basis that my original thoughts have been given voice by my esteemed colleague above, I feel more confident in commenting.

The first thing to say is that, indeed, 'Majestic Grandeur' seems to be the right phrase. I like the composition. And the colours on water and land are fine for me. It's when we get to the clouds and the sky that I felt things began to look a bit 'not right'. Now, I don't know what light looks like in that part of the world, but my reaction was that the vibrancy and/or saturation sliders had been pushed too far on the clouds and the sky.

Nice angle of view, were you shooting from the shore or a boat?

Enchanting beauty; killing blue...if i have to suggest something, it is to include more of water body in the foreground

Thanks, Nandakumar, Dave, Donald, John and Richard for taking time to look and comment. Having read your comments I've made a couple of adjustments to both the sky and the crop and shall add them to the original post for your thoughts.

Thanks John, I was on a boat which took us the length of the Sound, a great experience it was too.

Yes. Most definitely, yes. That, in my opinion, is now right up there. A wonderful image.

Thank you Donald for your original feedback which made me return to the image and view it with your comments in mind. I pleased you prefer the second version.

I like the composition but I am not keen on #1. #2 spoke of the grandeur that you saw. I like the inclusion of more water there than #1 and the environment shot of #3 ? -- if I am on that cruise ship, I wouldn't have seen what you saw.

Lessening the saturation has helped greatly. This looks like a very beautiful place to be.

Peter, it would have been better, if you had retained the first post, because the ensuing comments can confuse the late readers about what has been discussed

Ah yes, now I get it; the edited version, with more sea* (to my mind tying the distant two halves together), plus the less saturated blue sky, have really done the trick Peter.

    * I'm wondering why I didn't think to suggest that

    Cheers, Dave

Image #1 is now blank on my iPad and says it is "no longer available". #2 is excellent and the sky much more natural

Hi Nandakumar, I've replaced the missing #1 but it is an un cropped version. Thanks for letting me know it wasn't visible. I had inadvertently removed it from Flickr.
