Those Eyes

[Teton Chuck]

This past winter Jackson Hole had record amounts of snow. In January it got to -30F and didn't get above 0 F for a number of days. It was a hard winter for wildlife. But it was a good time for scavengers, including coyotes, eagles and foxes. This coyote had been on a carcass of a Pronghorn when it moved in my direction. There was a big mound of snow about 10 meters form me and the coyote came over to take a look. I had my 550 mm lens set up and took this photo.

Interesting concept, Chuck, but with that vast mass of snow in the foreground hiding a large part of the coyote's face, I find this image is not as effective as most of your other work.

Thanks for the feedback. I got a kick out of it peaking over the snowdrift. I would not choose this photo to hang on my wall as my best coyote photo.

On the contrary, I find that the piled-up snow is what makes the photograph for me.

That is a very striking shot Chuck but I also find the expanse of snow at the bottom of the shot slightly distracting. It's about the eyes and maybe a slice from the bottom would add emphasis in that respect - but perhaps that is just personal preference.

I agree with all thoughts here. I like the snow but it is distracting since it is oof. I always learn by looking at others' work. Thanks for sharing!

I agree with John (Rostron) -- I like the shot too concentrating on the eyes. Also for John (2) comment about cropping. I was late as usual...sorry.
