Practicing The Craft: Blood Red Rose in Black and White

Taking away the colour from the rose leaves me the essence of shapes and shadows.

    Brian,

Nice shot but I think that the rose could to be lighter, the background darker or both. Since I am one of those people who prefer color to B & W please take this comment accordingly.
There is a black "halo" around the rose. A selection artifact maybe?

It may well be an artifact. I'm eclectic with colour. Depends on the shot.
