Converting to B&W is a good idea John as the color images may not look so nice in harsh light. Both nice images but #1 seems more appealing to me with light and composition

I kinda like the dramatic shot of #1 with the clouds positioned exactly pointing to the boat there. I also like the conversion to black and white but the light is still harsh on both.

#1 is a splendid shot. I want to be on that boat ride. You have to work with what you have and the B&W and composition are spot on. I also like the sparkly water filling half the frame but not all - good angle.
