While my plan for my 'next sin' bubbles along, I took a walk with Dream to where the new housing estate is eating up the farmland.
And in the way all animal lovers do, I am sure I can hear her asking me....'where's the rabbits, you used to let me run free here'...

This week is Seniors Week in Melbourne. My partner works with an advocacy group called Council on The Aging. COTA runs activities for its members throughout the week and I get a gig talking about photography to encourage people to get out and about and be active. Today I was talking on composition.

Re: Day 06: October 2010 PAD

Had an interesting session last night at the Cairns Photographic Society on portrait photography. So, keen to try out my my new found knowledge I cast around for a suitable model. After some persuasion, Portia, was co-opted to the cause. She was none too keen at first, complaining that she had wanted to do a spot of gardening before sundown and all my mucking around with tripods, reflectors and tinkering with the innards of the camera was eating into her outdoor time. Despite a torrent of abuse the picture was eventually captured. I think I'll stick to landscapes - they can't talk back!

With an absolutely stunning ability to forget everything that I've learned in the last few days, I came up with this. I'm off, however. It's my sister's 40th birthday, today. See you all, tomorrow!

    Netting

These are huge roadside nets to catch wayward golf balls. I took lots of shots and then did some cropping but I'm still frustrated by the composition.Just needed a seagull in it maybe..Colin ?... Oh well roll on tomorrow.

    Cranes

    Day 06: October 2010 PAD

Bright but windy today; so I installed a storage heater in one room - 2 more to do sometime.

Parked on the quay while getting some materials from the nearby DIY Shop and noticed this 'arrangement' of cranes.

But it could really do with a nice fluffy white cloud in the top right corner for balance.

I'll have to use a different road now 'cos it's just going to annoy me every time I drive past. Any suggestions?

Just a quick idea, Pete, but have you tried cropping the previous photo into a landscape format. Possibly 5 x 4 ratio.

I think that might give the overall image more depth. You will lose the black cloud but I think that might be making the scene a little 'top heavy' anyway.

Just a thought after holding a piece of paper against my screen.

    Re: Cranes

I like it, lots going on, good place to mooch about and the gently rolling farmland in the background...is it on an estuary?

    Grant,
Are your neighbours getting concerned ?
    Are those real shoulders?
I like these shots, they raise a quizzical eyebrow...more than Portia can manage.
Have you heard Tim Minchin's 'Inflatable You' If not I think you might enjoy it! U tube is the place to find it....enjoy.

Most of the trees in our area are just beginning to turn color. This one, however, is almost fully changed. I used a yellow filter on my Panasonic FZ7 to enhance the shade of red.
