Hi Judith ~ I really like this picture! It tells a story and brings back memories to me. It would be neat to see the connector used to hitch it to the 'power source' that pulled it through the fields. It is not up-side-down in your picture. This is the way the piece of equipment, called a
"spring-tooth harrow", is positioned. The lever that is shown is used to raise and lower the "teeth".
In my younger years, I worked in the farm fields with one of these, pulling it by using a tractor. It was usually connected to another piece of equipment called a
cultipacker and pulled in tandem. The cultipacker smashed the clods of dirt and the spring-tooth harrow smoothed out the ground to ready it for planting.
