Melissa was one of the 'Old Ones' in the village. At the right time and in the proper way she took my daughter as her walking stick. The village decided my daughters new name was just a touch formal for one so young. Melissa was in the Fish clan so they nicknamed 'Fish-stick'.
Every Spring as the snow melted and the new growth started Melissa would search out the tender new shoots of these ferns and munch away.
