    Wild Horses

Houston Rodeo did a tribute to the working horse. It was beautifully done and this was the during the finale.

Wonderful exposure and composition with the placement of the white horse in the scene, its side facing the camera and its head posing for the camera.

Your thread title mentions wild horses but your post mentions that the occasion was a tribute to the working horse, which indicates that they really aren't wild. Are they wild?

Thank you Mike! These horses are breed solely for bronc riding, so wild in the sense that they will not be tamed for riding. Technically, I guess they are not wild, as in not contained in a pen.

That's quite a capture. You have even managed some eye contact with most of the horses. Does tis happens regularly (the tribute) or is this a one off - which would make the capture all the more valuable.?

John, this was the first year that this was done, however it was done all 2 weeks that the Rodeo ran. I attended 2 nights and this was caught the 1st night I went. The second time I went the horses never all turned to face forward, so no capture of all of them, or should I say none that were keepers. I would imagine that the horses reacted differently each time they came out. They are turned out first one at a time, for the first 5 and then en mass. Not sure if they will do this again next year. I have a feeling that this was to quell the rising PETA concerns with the treatment of the rodeo animals. Just my guess, as they went into much explaination that these horses are breed to buck, are prized and valued as such.

Nice, Barbara. If you ever come to New Zealand then try to come when the Kaimanawa horses are being brought in. You will not be disappointed. I have never been - but many of our national photographers have relished the experience. A friend of mine is going for the second time. The name Kimber Brown is renowned for organising an event for photographers. Here is her site ... which will give some insight - http://www.pipiart.co.nz/

In a minute, I will have a look at your other work!
