Wine: Cracked cork being removed

One advantage (probably the only advantage) of a plastic wine cork or a cork made of pressed particles adhered together is that it won't crack. Unfortunately, a closure made from a single piece of cork often cracks and on rare occasions will even completely break into small chunks.

Setup
The background is a drop cloth rumpled to create a variety of tones. A small continuous-light lamp fitted with two diffusion socks to reduce the brightness lights the background from above and on the left. A medium continuous-light lamp above, left and close to the scene to create soft shadows lights the cork, the bottle and the cork remover's plastic handle. A flash light in the right front area lights a white reflector on the right side that redirects the light to brighten the metal on the side of the cork remover. A white reflector on the left side of the scene similarly brightens the metal on the top of the cork remover.

It makes common sense to me to understand that a cork is never as good as a screw top for several reasons and that no proof is required exactly because it is common sense. Unfortunately, it also makes common sense to realize that not everyone uses common sense and that using it can't be taught.
