Tricolored Heron fishing

I found this Tricolored Heron at Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge and found him to be very tolerant of my presence. I returned in the evening and found him at what is apparently his favorite fishing spot. There was a culvert going under the road here which may have been concentrating the fish into a smaller area. As I walked across behind him, a Snowy Egret flew away but he only paused and became still and watchful until I squatted down and quit moving. He then proceeded to catch little fish, one right after the other.

When I began, it was very overcast and my ISO was set very high but I waited for quite some time for the clouds to thin and finally there was a small, short break in which this beautiful light came through. The ISO is still high at 2000 but I think ok. What was first a disappointing backdrop of manmade drab gray boards ended up reflecting the light beautifully and I'm quite pleased. C&C always welcome and appreciated.

That lighting and setting works well. As an observation, on No 1 would it be worthwhile cropping the right side slightly to remove the nut on the wood to match the other two in the series?

Wonderful photos and narrative! We normally hear of man-made construction getting in the way of animals' survival, yet in this case it seems to be making survival easier.

Thanks, Grahame. You are right. I hadn't processed them as a series but presented this way, the difference really sticks out.
