    Model shoot

I had an interesting opportunity pop up yesterday to do a shoot with a professional model. Although I have had some studio and lighting training in the past, we only shot other classmates, so shooting someone who had been doing this to make a living was a totally different experience for me.

We did some outdoor shooting using reflectors, some indoor shooting where we added just a bit of light from a speedlight and some work in a studio. Needless to say, I did learn a lot.

This outdoor head shot probably one of the few shots that is suitable for most audiences.

You are lucky to shoot with a professional model.
The way she looks is a sign.
Your reflector and/or flash works correctly.
I like the sunlight on her shoulder indicating the direction of the sun making acceptable and understandable the overexposure on her hair.
    Very nice.

Very nice! I got to work with some aspiring models a while ago. The difference between those that knew what they were doing and those that did not was night and day! It is definitely an art form.

Was the "so shooting someone who had been doing this to make a living was a totally different experience for me." referring to the instructor or the model? I think both has an added experience to the process; the instructor aspect is obvious unless they are the take charge, set your cameras this way type. I viewed one of those excursion model shoots on YouTube and one instructor took the students through the process handholding (or making decisions for them) all through the session.

If your were referring to using a professional model this experience can be rewarding as well, some models need full directions from the photographer (where to stand, how to move, what expression to give) and some models can take over the session doing what they think you want, whichever type model you might encounter I've found that communication between the photographer and subject is key to you both getting the most out of the experience.

For those of you seeing the image displaying a woman on the right and the words, Endosame Fuerte, on the left, that is not the image Manfred uploaded. You'll need to wait until the proper image is again being displayed.

I usually use Flickr instead of TinyPics for the images, and that is why. I've got the Flickr link in place now.

There was no instructor at the shoot; the model has been doing this type of work for a number of years. Directing was simple and she generally made the poses I wanted to shoot and was quite good with suggestions of her own. Most of the direction was quite minor; position of the eyes, clearing of stray hair, etc. She had a nice wardrobe along as well, so that worked out quite nicely too.

A great experience, I've only had about three such opportunities and am looking forward to doing more; especially want to do more with external flash.
