I've been sitting in the back row, reading but not participating in the forums.... all the while learning and still going out to practice.
Here is one of the recent signs of Spring finally coming to life.

Nice composition. Check out your histogram, which indicates that either your capture or your post-processing renders the look of a slightly underexposed image. Consider adding an ever-so-slight vignette to increase concentration on the subjects. It's difficult to determine whether you used a polarizer but my guess is that you did. If you didn't, using one would have taken the image to the next level by minimizing the little bit of glare.

It's obvious that you were also sitting in the back row when you captured the image.

My thoughts were along similar lines. Could you get away with a fraction more brightness without creating any over exposure hot spots with the highlights.

The only other very slight item is on the right edge beside the log where there is a small out of focus dark mark which I would clone out.

Good composition and plenty of sharp focus depth.

Thank you Nandakamur. I appreciate your constructive comments Mike, Geoff, and John. Mike, I will read up on and try a vignette - something I've never done before. No, I did not use a polorizer and realize now that it would improve the image.

That's a great shot Irene!

In a lake at my local park there is a log that is fixed to allow animals to bask in the sun. I had never seen this phenomenon until I saw the log crowded with turtles hustling for space in the sun. When ducks decide to do so too it can be quite hilarious!

Thank you Trev. Yes they are a common site around here what with the many ponds and ditches and especially the wildlife centre. I read that they bask to relieve their body of algae and leeches and to raise their body temp- thus the reason they stretch their legs. They are very skittish. I was able to capture this image from the vehicle, window down but the moment I opened the door they plunged simultaneously !

The ones in Beacon Hill Park are real show-offs: they are used to hanging out in front of admiring visitors and locals. Woe betide any duck that tries to take over their space!
