    On Watch

This guy had been hanging around since I turned up at 4am in the pitch dark, set up and finally left before the sun came over the horizon. It was not until I got home that I realised it was his boat

Comments and suggestions welcome as always.

Nice, capture has a painterly effect.

Perhaps a little tighter crop on the right?

I find your crop too tight, Brian. Grahame's original is definitely a stronger image.

    Thank you John.

I PPd this in Viveza 2, lots of structure and then colours to my liking.

I think that's a bit tight Brian. Mine was an unusual crop in that I normally stick with 3:2 or 16:9 but on this rare occasion went non standard. I feel some room is needed at the fore end of the hull otherwise the frame is all too busy in the lower area.

Great capture; it took me some time to locate the owner though

Yes, I agree. It took me some time to work out if it was a fox or a cat!

Me too -- agree with John and Nandy...just because you said "guy" -- I assumed a man. but I like the shot very much...guy or cat involved ... or not.

Very nice colors GrahameA lot of structure indeed. Reducing some of it in the ground might work fine but it is difficult to say without seeing.

Thanks John, strangely when I first saw it lurking around in the darkness my first reaction was a fox but we don'y have them here

Thank you Izzie. I should have had my dog with me, no cat would have dared show itself

    Thanks Binnur,

I have recently just started playing with Viveza and need to go back and spend some time on this image as the posted one was a bit of a rush. As for the colours, as you know there are many possibilities available at this hour of the day

For info, the image was about the only keeper I had out of 50 shots. My intention had been to go out in the darkness (no moon) with some stars visible, use just the 10mm with the full frame body in crop mode and see what I could achieve.

I experimented with light painting but the results had too much noise, experimented with flash and when the tide came in and the water was under the boat, ideal for that milky water shot, the results were ruined by the reflections caused by moisture build up on the lens filter I had not noticed

    Re: On Watch

It might be your only keeper for the outing but it is a nice keeper. The cat adds to it too
Would like to see your fine tuned version when you finish it.
