    That should be my motto.

Still trying to make the best of the bad crop from Costa Rica. This is an underexposure of a detail from a kapok? tree. It might be a good candidate for a painting effects program. I have been eyeing the one from Topaz.

Gorgeous colors, shapes and textures. Applying blur to the entire image might make a very attractive abstract.

Janis. if you use Nik, try the detail extractor. It is over the top and I normally do not use it. It may be suitable for this image.

Thanks, Mike and Ole. Took you both up on your suggestions and have been playing with the Classical Soft Focus and Detail Extractor tools, singly and together. So far, ugh, but maybe I'll get something out of it someday. Cheers.

okay here's a thought. If you don't already have a stacking program download Fiji, it's free and it works well. Process these this shot as two shots. One slightly brighter and one slightly darker. Enhance them and then stack them in Fiji. Once stacked you can go for a 3D effect that just might work quite nicely. Forgiveness can be easier to get than permission. Hope you don't mind but I gave it a shot.

Thanks, Susan. Yes, the bark of these trees is extraordinary and I am sure I could have happily spent an hour or so photographing this one, which was large and hollow and would have made for a wonderful refuge from the rain.

No, Brian, I don't mind you playing. You did a nice job. Thanks for the suggestion, but I have not mastered the editing software I already have, so I am going to try to resist adding anything new for a while.
