Ole, I don't understand. It's (finally) spring here in Manitoba, also about 17. Forecast for the next three days is low 20s and I mean to fully enjoy myself. May even take a few pictures of me enjoying myself.

All three compositions are very nice and I like that all three scenes have the same fundamental style of fence. My qualm with all of them is that it is difficult to see the barbed wire. Different light would be required to make the barbed wire more prominent.

Thank, Geoff and Mike. That's an interesting observation, Mike; it had not occured to me to do anything with the wire. I was mostly absorbed in showing the beauty of the landscape beyond. I have been reworking #3 as I did not do a good enough job of bringing out the sunlit patch of hill on the right, which was shining like a jewel when we drove by.

I like the 2nd shot, too. The fog winding through the trees creates a pathway that leads the viewer through the scene. Something similar is going on with the valley in the third image, but the post is blocking the eye's progress to some extent. I wonder if a couple of steps to the right would have captured the brightly lit hill and provided a clear view of the valley below too.

way out of my zone but maybe playing with the angles between the posts would pay dividends next time you see an interesting fence?

Good point, Greg. Unfortunately, I was in a moving vehicle for all three shots and was reacting more than anticipating. I will keep it in mind for next time, though.

Thanks, Brian. I am trying to train myself to look at things from alternative perspectives, so I will keep that suggestion in mind, too.

What lush territory and shot on the fly. Good job! I particularly like #2 as well. All those zigs and zags and the varied post heights. You might consider cropping some off the left - I'm not sure you need that much path to take you into the image and I just want to get in there, beyond...

I'm very late in coming to this, for which I apologise.

Most of it's already been said above, but if I may add just a thought ..........

I think an important part of composition is working to get that balance between the important elements in the picture. With that in mind and despite the fact that I think the backdrop is by far the most beautiful (look at that sky), the thrird image in the series is, I feel, over-dominated by the fence posts.

They sort of smack you in the face with a 'Hey look at us. We're the main subject here' attitude, whereas in teh second image in particular, they (the fence posts) are much more of an integral part of the scene.

And that, for me, is all about the composition and how they're placed in the frame. I have noted Janis' comment about these being taken from a moving vehicle and there being no chance to be more precise, but I think the point is worth making nevertheless.

I like your improvements Janis. Your changes add drama. Am less worried than Donald about the fence posts. Would like to see similar drama made in image no 1. However am concerned about the preponderance of green in your last image, above, and wonder how it would look toned down so that the fence remains the main hero here.

Thanks, Jim. I was trying to de-emphasize the fence, as it was that sunlit hill in the distance that had caught my eye. But point taken; if I revisit it, I will keep that it mind.

Ole, I have indeed been enjoying myself too much and have suffered at work this week as a result! As far as the temperature goes, we are unseasonably cool this weekend, but I am going out hunting slime molds, nonetheless!

Jim, I stole a few minutes just now to rework #1. I introduced a colour cast in the clouds that I don't know how to cure, but otherwise how do you like it? I don't know that it has more drama, but it brings out more of the features and colour contrast.
