Children's Day, formerly known as Boy's Day

May 5 is a national holiday in Japan, Children's Day (Kodomo no Hi). It used to be Boy's Day (Tango no Sekku), but it now honours all children. There is still a Girl's Day (Hina-matsuri), which is celebrated on March 3.

My daughter dressed Kane up in a traditional Boy's Day costume, for me to photograph, but he was not as cooperative as last time when I photographed him in a baby kimono. Kane in the Japanese style

Nice shots, he seems to be in a groove on the second shot.

Adorable grandson Manfred. I like the first one and his expression, I think it compliments the costume... almost like... " you going to mess with me".

Thanks Kim, but the first image is him just getting over crying about being put into the clothes. He especially resisted having the hat and headband "installed". The pout of the lower lip stuck out is 100% like his mother when she was his age.

+1 Kim's remarks. The first one seems to say "get out of my face!" And the second seems to say, "I may as well make the best of this!" Your grandson is a sweetie! Your pictures are pieces of memory created. Well done as you always do.

He is soooo cute, Manfred...he will have a good multicultural upbringing. Wait till he sings to you in Japanese... you will be grinning from ear to ear. Very nice memory shots.

Yes but I commented on the image before I read your introduction :-) Must be wonderful to see the traits of your child in your grandchild.
