    Under The Glass

Before this bug got transferred from inside to outside I got the camera out and shot a few. After I got underway I added continuous light from a standing lamp on the side and added my dim mini flashlight from directly above on the second one. The setup is on my laptop case. It's hard to tell but the second glass is light green. The shots were much improved after the lighting additions. I'm learning a thing or two here :-))) Any C&C always welcome.

Thanks much - it was pretty fun for me - maybe not so much for the bug but it wasn't captive long.

Interesting, Susan. I like the reflections and shadows in the first image.

    Re: Under The Glass

I enjoyed viewing these two very much. Shot #1 looks like fun with lots of thinking and prepping. #2 is just neat.

I saw a stink bug last night in our bathroom last night. I picked it up with a tissue and hid it inside the Kleenex box because hubby came upstairs. If he sees that bug he will not give it a chance to live to be photographed. Good idea about the glass though I do not think I will make the zigzaggy design there...I was once called a bug murderer you know...

I never would have thought an insect under a glass would make for a good image but you have proved me wrong. I like these very much.
The first one is interesting with the lines of shadows looking like bars in a jail keeping the little fella incarcerated.

First one is easily the better composition, but the second wins as a targeted bug shot.

Glad you enjoyed them. If you find a dead stinkbug take a toothpick and open it's wings - it is a beautiful jewel inside of all that drab 'overcoat'. I'll post an old one I shot above for you.

If I could only put the second bug in the first shot. The ribbed glass made it hard with my moving target.

Eeeeekkkkkkkkkkkk!!!! You operated on a stink bug? Hubby said it is called a stink bug because it is so. The kids (doggies) bring them from the outside I think. I have never smell one but I believe Bill and his 7 other siblings did so when they were young...I can just imagine their antics...

    Re: Under The Glass

All three images are very creative and compelling. My hunch is that some people will prefer the first one, some the second one and still others the last one.

The last entry ( you could have posted it down the thread ) is very very nice; the man made background goes very well with the bug

    Re: Under The Glass

I noticed the extra image. Nandy is right...should have been down here...but it is nice. I love the way you processed that ugly stinkin' bug. Man that one has a lively brownie and green colours. I think the one I saw recently has a much duller brown. The background is lovely too. It is more than I expect. I did not come in earlier because I worked my butt off in the garden yesterday but I saw the brown ugly stinkin' buggy. Thank you very much. I suppose mine is dead already. I did not look because I forgot.

I'll do that going forward - thanks for the tip. That is the lawn chair where I found the stinkbug so I shot it there ;-)
