    Wine glass with cherry

This was taken back in 1986 when I was fooling around doing little studio set-ups in the basement.
I had purchased an excellent book on studio photography that consisted of instructions and diagrams as well as film and camera settings to produce interesting photos.
I basically copied one of the shots as closely as I could with my limited make-shift gear to gain some experience.
For this particular shot a flash was set up behind the glass and fired through a frosted and textured acrylic drop-ceiling fluorescent fixture lens
This was one of the results.

I like this one more for the light patterns than the concept (still life), looks better when viewed with the lightbox.

As I said, this was just an exercise to get some experience with the technique, so I tried to keep it simple just like the example in the book.
What is the "Lightbox" you referred to?

    Robert,

If you click on the image it'll be displayed with darker background.

You might consider designing the background, displaying it on your monitor with the
wine glass situated in front of it.

    Re: Wine glass with cherry

I like the concept a lot, so much so that it makes me want to look for a few backgrounds that are white, translucent and highly textured.

I'm surprised by your description of the setup that the shape of the cherry is so nicely defined. Was there anything else about the setup that you forgot to explain?

What liquid did you use? What drink would normally be served in a wine glass and with a cherry?

An intriguing shot. Looking at the cherry, it was difficult at first to tell if the cherry was inside the glass or outside. Using Litebox, I can see bubbles around the cherry, so presumably inside.

Is that you reflected in the base of the glass? A 1986 selfie?

In this case I placed an inverted wine glass with a glycerin coating/drops in front of my monitor
with an orchid displayed on the monitor. Macro lens used.

I shoot with a camera and what pray tell what is 'film'. Isn't that what I wipe off my lens?

Thanks to Nandakumar, Mike, John and Brian for the comments.

    Mike,
The background is a 2' x4' panel of frosted, textured acrylic lens from a fluorescent ceiling fixture. You can probably get one at Home Depot.
The reflection below the glass is from a sheet of clear mylar which was draped over the front edge of the table.
The cherry was real, but was a Maraschino from a jar (not fresh) and was missing the stem, so I made one from a twist tie. The liquid was likely apple juice. As to a particular drink, as I do not drink any wines or spirits, I haven't a clue, and likely just made it up. I call it "The Rangefinder". Consists of apple juice in a wine glass with a cherry. Shaken, not stirred.

    John,
Unlikely that it is my reflection. I draped the camera and tripod with black cloth to eliminate reflections as much as possible, set everything up with the room lights on, turned them off, lay on the floor (again not to appear in the shot) and fired the camera with a cable release through the motor drive.

    Brian,
Pray tell what is Digital? Isn't that the exam the Proctologist gives you?
