I have to agree with all the positive comments on your image. Having looked at it cropped, I have no opinions either way about the foreground.

I think that the extra brightness around the shoreline is probably a consequence of a difference in the degree of agitation of the water surface at the edges. In the open water there would be ripples, but less overall irregularities. There, some of the water surface would be at a greater angle and would be reflecting a different part of the sky.

Thank you John I will lessen the brightness of the shoreline with some more PP. It actually didn't bother me very much but I care about opinions and comments in CinC

    Beautiful image Binnur!

May I ask you (or the forum) some amateur questions?

    1. Why/how did you use such a long exposure? I would have thought there was enough ambient light for a much shorter exposure. Did you use an ND filter to be able to take a longer exposure? If so, what was the benefit of such a very long exposure?

    2. How did you determine the appropriate exposure duration? Trial and error, or did you calculate it?

    Thanks! Amazing image!

    Re: Long Exposure

    Hi Michael

I used a 10 stop ND filter to get a long exposure because I wanted to create the silky effect on the water. In fact the water had ripples because there was wind. If you read my reply to Susan about 'bad location' you can see why I needed such a long exposure. When the high hills hide the sun everwhere gets dark even if the sun is still above the horizon. So, the ambient light wasn't enough for a shorter exposure. If there weren't mountains, let's say if the sun was above the water then the exposure would be shorter of course. Also the image was shot around 8 o'clock in the evening which was a bit late but even so if there weren't mountains the exposure would be shorter.

I don't have a variable ND filter which would enable me to use 7 stop or 8 stop when necessary. If I had, my exposure would be shorter but it would still be long enough to create the silky effect .

Here is the link for the tutorial of CinC about the use of ND filters. You can also find the info about the calculation of the exposure there. https://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tu...ty-filters.htm

I believe you but I looked for motion in the grasses and branches. Seeing none, I had no reason to suspect ripples in the water...

    Thanks for the link.

You can see some blur on the grass which was caused by the wind. It is visible especially on the grass around the Island. If you read post #19, you will see that Mike also noticed and liked that softness on the grass

Although I have no experience in this genre of photography, I know what I like, and I like your image very much. I personally wouldn't crop the image's foreground. The only change I'd make, and it's a minor one that others have mentioned, is to reduce the brightness of the small area of water between two of the foreground rocks. It's a lovely image, Binnur, and I look forward to your future posts.

Beautiful colours and a simplistic look in this image Binnur. I do love long exposures, keep them coming.

Thanks for looking and liking the image Randy. I agree with you about that small bright area of water. Thanks for noticing

Binnur, i attempted a B&W of your image and enhanced the brightness a bit; it really works; please see for yourself

    Re: Long Exposure

Hi Nandakumar. I think there is telepathy between you and me When I examined all my images from the same shooting session , I decided to edit only three images. And I started with this one. But I also have had a note in my notebook to work this image in B&W too. I also have had a note for one of the other two images to work it both in color and/or B&W. So, we are on the same boat Because the scenes are sort of similar to each other, I might work the other image in B&W, I actually haven't decided yet. But , it is very nice to see that we have similar thoughts , this means I have learnt a lot about photography in CinC.

So, I will be uploading a B&W image from the same session when I decide which one. First let me make small corrections to finish this image though

PS. By the way , long exposures usually look very nice in B&W too as far as I can see from the images I watch on the internet.

PS. I have just had a very quick look at my files and I saw that the other image I wanted to work in color and/or B&W is actually the same as this scene above but without the foreground. So, may be it is a good idea not to crop the FG in this image but work the other image in B&W

I am not into smooth silky water so I can just say I was Wow-ed by this shot until I scrolled downwards and saw that smoothness. Your colours are at their best. I like the scene too.

I am a bit speechless, Binnur, which is certainly not usual. Very nice indeed, and would love to know where the image was taken? For a brief moment I thought it was the most photographed tree here in New Zealand, before quickly realising from your description that it is certainly not that one. In the fullness of time I would like to read all of the commentaries above, but am aware that this will probably not happen (like the pile of magazines and books beside my bed!)

    Congratulations !!

Thank you very much for your encouraging comment Jim I live in Sığacık which is a village of Seferihisar and Seferihisar is a small town in İzmir which is one of the big cities in the west of Turkey. The image was taken in another village of Seferihisar and it is close to my location.

I'm adding a link to give you an idea about where I live
