    Why?

Why does the sky appear to be less blue at the horizon? This is a shot of the Dignity Statue near Chamberlain South Dakota with the Missouri River in the background. The Statue depicts Sacajawea, the Indian guide/translator for the Lewis & Clark Expedition.

I'm not very adept with post processing. Is there a simple way to do it?

Thanks in advance for the replies.

The sky appears on be less blue because it is less blue. The blue in the sky is due to the scattering of sunlight by particles in the atmosphere. Blue light gets scattered more so we see a uniform blue sky. Near the horizon, the light gets scattered differently so other colours dilute the blue. My feeling is that you should leave it as it is.

    John,

Thanks for the explanation. My wife says I am too fussy about stuff like this.

This comes under the category of not noticing until one becomes an avid photographer a particular characteristic of nature that has always existed. Similarly, I distinctly remember the subject I was photographing, the two people who were with me, and other details of the situation when I asked them at dusk if the sky always turns the gorgeous dark blue before turning black at night.

Tell her that anything worth being fussy about is worth being fussy to excess. Doing so may not convince her of that truth but, at the very least, it will convince her that she has no chance of getting you to use a different approach, which in the end is the only thing that matters.

Closer to Earth, air density more, so more scattering away of blue at eye level, at horizon .....

    Re: Why?

The sky explanation already taken cared of, if this is mine I should have looked for the RGB blinkies while shooting. There is somewhat an overexposed forehead that was darkened in post processing a bit. Good looking in expanded version in lytebox.
