    Abstract in Monochrome

I keep pieces of broken glass for the days I become inspired to make macro images and yesterday was one of those days. This image is at a magnification ratio of 1:1. This kind of photography is fun for me because the slightest change in the position of the light source or the subject can completely change the composition.

I would normally expect to change a scene such as this one to monochrome by desaturating because that method would usually suffice in this type of situation. However, I was pleasantly surprised that even in this situation converting using a color filter gave me a lot more control.

    Setup
The background is translucent vellum. A small continuous-light lamp behind the background is shining toward the subject and camera.

    Nice abstract.
If you don't give your setup it'd be difficult to understand how to get this kind of picture.

If you haven't watched Fantasia 2000 you really should. They included a flying whale segment that your shot could have come from. Oh and nice work.

Very nice abstract. The sharp and soft together in the image is really quite compelling.

For anyone who is interested, the broken wine glass displayed below inside the broken, larger water glass is the subject that I used to make the abstract.

    How did I miss this?

That's a superb image, Mike./ Very, very saleable, I would suggest, to those supplying artworks to the corporate sector; e.g. hotels, offices etc.

What a wonderful abstract. I have heard it said that an abstract shouldn't resemble what the object really is.....you nailed that very well.
