Re: Day 12: October 2010 PAD

Working from home today and looking onto the garden. It is very special this time of year. I wanted to try my new 2 x teleconverter. This was taken with my Nikon D300s, Tamron 180m macro at f16, 2 x teleconverter, tripod and self timer. Unfortunately I do not have my screen for processing so I am not 100% sure about the colour.

    Shell Ginger - Another Tropical

This is Alpinia zerambut, photographed as it caught the early sun, this morning. Another plant from my garden - fairly common in the tropics.

I took a stroll at lunchtime today, there is an agricultural & farm management college nearby. Later today we had thunder and a lot of rain, so I am glad I popped out when I did.
Conversions are another area where I would like to practice more of & get better at.

It can be unlucky to walk under a ladder

People sometimes ask 'why is it supposed to be unlucky to walk under a ladder'.

    Day 12: October 2010 PAD

Well it is definitely unlucky if I am up the ladder!

On my own, so I had to use the timer for this shot.

This autumn, I have 'wasted' far too many sunny days on maintenance work to the outside of my house. But I suppose that once it is completed I should have a few worry free years.

    Harry

I went upstairs to say hello to Harry and saw him transfixed in the gloom....and yes we do keep our children in the attic !

    Pete

PS any advice on settings ? It was just getting dark.

    Re: Harry

I rather like the dark background, Pete.

You could experiment with adding a tiny bit more brightness in the highlights providing you don't increase the apple symbol as well.

But I wouldn't alter it too much.

    Hi Geoff,

Fun shot, how many "takes" to get the falling brush?
The shadow looks interesting too...could you angle the shot so the shadow telling the story?

I was drafted to help clean up the veggie garden and spotted the very late tomato blossom. It may just make a small green tomato before frost as we are predicted to continue what is known as Indian summer for perhaps two more weeks.

    Window Cat

Pass this window most days and this cat is usually sitting in it, but when I go to take a shot the cat is gone.Today however I managed to get a quick shot before it was able to scarper.

    T insect

A strange "T" shaped insect that looks more like a wood chiseling splinter than a creature - it has attached itself to the hall ceiling near the lamp.

I'm quite pleased with these few images over the last couple of nights - not bad for hand held (this one at arms length using Live View to focus) and using the on-board flash. If I have one criticism of my own images; it is that there is nothing to really give a sense of scale of what we're looking at.

    Thanks,

    Green Lacewings II

A couple of new shots of Green Lacewings - first a top view of last night's creature, it is still there and waving its antenna gently.

and this is the other one, on the wooden door - it looks a little 'the worse for wear'.

I like this Tim, particularly the background lighting effect. I think it works well with the image.

    Thanks,
There's a lot of bugs around your place Dave. Thought of having the pest control man in?
