    Meet Miss Spiky

I don't know how to determine if this Cacti is male or female!. But I do know that this one has been getting a bit of TLC recently and has rewarded us with this flower and another one in the making.

I've been keeping my eye on it to catch it with the flower open. Today it obliged and allowed me to capture a frame or two, this is the one I chose to process. As always your thoughts and comments are welcome.

Nice soft light. Good separation between the bright tones of the flower and the bright tones of the background. Consider adding a slight vignette to add a bit more depth to the image. I also wonder if including more of the pot would be enjoyable, as its colors shown in this image nicely complement the subject.

Love the soft tones and colors. The title is perfect.

    +1
Nice colors, at the same time sharp and soft.

Thanks for looking and commenting gents.

Mike the pot has a chromed finish and is showing its age. I deliberately omitted most of it due to its reflexive qualities and the wear upon it.

Lovely clarity and vitality in the image. The result, I suspect, of good lighting and good processing.

A little bit of tender loving care goes a long way, especially with flowering plants. Love it, Peter...

I'm glad you liked it Izzie, I was given the Cacti five years ago by a friend who emigrated to New Zealand. This is the first year in that time that it has produced flowers of this size. Previously there has been more but smaller blooms.

We have a cacti in my kitchen area garden but it's like it has always been there, does nothing and I don't want to touch it because I have not grown one before. I don't know where it came from but it is there...Thank you for sharing, I might want to try to give that one a TLC one of these days...
