Bit of fun on the beach with a flash and my super-wide.

I like this very much but would crop the gorgeous gal a bit closer...

I really struggled with the crop so good call.

I'm not a portrait person so approached it as I would my landscape work - 16:9 - low angle - RoT etc etc which is probably not the way to do it.

Love it, the composition and the crop. Possibly there could be just slightly more above her head at the top than the bottom?

Great shot and the image of your lovely model jumps off the page - I'm not sure I would dare to refer to her as a "super wide" though!

was going to say - worth adding the word 'lens' just to be clear? - but decided the tin hat may not be strong enough

Different image Robin I think I would reduce the exposure on the lady a bit as the flash light seems too strong against the dark sunset.

I'm no portrait person either, but I wouldn't crop that much. Maybe a bot at the left top get rid of that building on the skyline.

    I think it's a powerful composition.

Nice one indeed! ...me always with the questions: how did you light her? Just straight on with a flash?

A very nicely done image, Robin. It is avery similar setup and equipment that I used to do the shot in this thread, including the octabox:

    On the bench

Except for the beach and the lady wearing a red dress. Same idea though to partially overpower the ambient light. And the end result can be a striking image that cannot be captured any other way.

I found that hauling around the studio lights and big battery tended to prevent me from going out to do these shots, which is why I picked up the Godox Witstro 360 about 18 months ago. I finally got a Bowens speedring for my Balcar speedring softbox so I hope to use it out in the field a bit more.
