    The old and the new

Going on the old adage - 'the best camera is the one you have with you' in this case my samsung phone camera, I saw this and could not resist taking it. But being a total numpty with the phone camera I did a bit of pp with Nik to cover up my lack of technical expertise with the phone camera and create a feel in the image.

I loved the book vs the tablet/smartphone but both totally engrossed and the 'gap'

I like how you've created a story beyond what the viewer might find for themselves; it makes me want to add scenarios that might develop. Nicely composed and processed.

Nicely done Mark. I especially like the sepia grainy pp. They float yet are anchors.

My Samsung is grainy too...but you did very well here with taking what you have and improved it a lot to show your story. I love the colour too...Very creative.

Thanks Izzie, appreciated. The grain was emphasised a bit after with the desaturation and the sepia tone for the final effect.

I like the way you have placed your subjects in the frame, Mark. The large blank space above reinforces your theme of distance.

no worries Matt, each to their own, I am not a fan of people / street in reality but took the image to meet a monthly challenge, the processing was interesting but to be honest was more around reducing the obvious lack of skill by the photographer with his phone camera

Given that in another thread you wrote, "Is this place still the hell of creativity, that ridicules anything that isn't pin sharp?" and then in this thread you wrote, "Its a great photo but I hate the PP ... sorry", it would be good and, I think, would contribute to learning, if you explained why you don't like something. In this case, for example, what is about the post processing that weakens the image for you? What would have made it a stronger image?

I think we all should be aiming to say why we do or do not like an image. Saying, "That's nice" or "That's not nice" doesn't really take anyone anywhere. On the other hand, developing our ability to constructively comment and criticise helps our own learning and that of others.
