Fowlis Wester Kirk

I have been exploring the recently acquired 14mm Samyang, and went back to Fowlis Wester Kirk, a place where I have taken many interior and exterior shots.

This is one of the exploratory shots from yesterday. Nothing creative, just seeing what could be done with the UWA in interior captures. We were give a gift of a year's subscription to the National Trust for Scotland and my goal for the year is to take as many interiors of the buildings on the list as possible. Fowlis Wester kirk is the only architectural shot in my library so practice is very much needed .

That is a very fine image. (does it have a wee tilt to the left?). Obviously we're just looking at a very small pic on here, but it looks very sharp from edge-to-edge. So it looks like you've got yourself a very good lens there.

You've done a very good job with the light and got an excellent exposure.

A good bit of work.

I like it, Bill, but think that you would get an even better result with a bracketed shot. Now I am one of the world's worst in getting around, recognising the need and actually doing a bracketed shot, but I feel sure in this instance that it would be the way.

In spite of liking your PP work, I am not a fan of WA lenses.
Would rather work with longer glass and photo-merge numerous images to alleviate distortion.

I've gotta disagree with that assessment, as I think it's quite creative to use a lens that makes it possible to get this composition in one shot and to use the foreground information in the scene so effectively.

I'm sure the tilt can be explained by the tendency of the foundation in old buildings to shift over time.

in addition I'd say you managed well the position of your len as there is no visible distortion with such lens.

Jim - it is a bracketed shot; the light in the church is a nightmare (or perhaps "daymare").
Chauncey - based on experiences with my 24-85 "walk-about" zoom I was not sure what to expect, but I like the UWA - a lot. I tried what you suggest in this location a couple of years ago and my personal taste is for this version, and not only because it was easier .
Dave - hope so! The nice thing about indoors architectural shots is that they are immune to the worst that a Scottish "summer" can throw at us.
Mike - thanks and yes, I moved around a fair bit precisely to get that foreground. The tilt is 99% down to me - having checked, it turns out that it's in all the shots I took and is probably a slight angle in the floor (1%) but I should have looked at the level on the tripod (99%).

Jean - my software is set to apply a lens-specific correction when the NEF is developed so the credit goes to the computer wizzes, not the photographer.
