Wouldn't using the proper tool in ACR/LR or PS achieve a better result John?
For clarity, I gather the uncorrected is the right hand, while the fixed one is on left?
This method, not being tailored to the specific colours* of the CA, has caused problems with smudged edges to all colours.
* as what I call "the proper tools" are
Some CA does take a lot of subtle movement of the colour range and amount sliders to get optimal corrections, especially if the image also contains bold colours with sharp edges, as this does. I'm not familiar with the CA controls in LR, were you using the manual ones? (rather than just the auto checkbox)
Did you use the Camera Raw? It has a defringing option...
Out of interest which lens produced those harsh CA's?
Camera Raw's defringing operation can be automated and uses lens data. I suspect this will work fine for OEM lenses, but if you are shooting a third party lens, you'll have to do it manually. I find that DxO Labs is better at noise reduction than the Adobe solutions, but that is an expensive route to go.

Sorry John, I have not used Elements at all so I really do not know the difference. I had started with Photoshop 4 and been with Photoshop since, apart from CC.
