    Looks like contrasty lighting isn't helping Brian,

    I find it is so easy to 'blow' the specular highlights on the top of those eyes.

    It was probably beyond the possible, but ideally, a sidestep left to get the rest of the head in front of the pale background would have been nice.

    As you say the side step to the left just wasn't possible. I did a version in black and white what do you think?

    A plain old black rain (non photo) umbrella (which I know are available locally in the P.I.) could help you by shading the creature from the bright sun...

    If you clean up that bit of spottiness near the bottom, I think you will have a good image with this monochrome version, Brian. It really brings out the shapes and wing vein details.

    That they are but he was back lit and there was no one to go into the pond and hold the umbrella for me.
