Brian, you have done it, the Robber is perfect. I am a bit bothered about the background. It seems to have two colours to it.

It has two main colors. Nothing fancy just what the background was. In my monitor the lighter side has subtle hints of blue and pink. What can I say our house is as strange as we are.

And the eye was pretty well lined up with the branch. Some days I just get lucky

Beautifully captured. For me there's just a bit too much transition in tone in the background. The different colours don't bother me, bit the tone does go from pretty dark to bright across the frame.

But the capture of the beastie itself is superb.

There's a consensus that the beastie is beautiful but that the background is busted. Fair enough but how to change it is a bit of a problem. Any suggestions that DO NOT include a highly detailed hand drawn mask will be much appreciated.

    Or .............

Just take this one as a learning experience and set a prop up for another to land on where there is a better background.

That I can do. But there is the minor consideration of getting her to land facing the right way

The challenges of macro wildlife photography!

Worth it though, because what you're producing is tremendous.

Though the background is not ideal, I don't dislike it apparently as much as others do. If one must have the dark and bright areas, they are at least properly positioned in relation to the subject; the position of transition between the two areas nicely conforms to the line formed by the subject and the subject is looking into the bright area, which is probably preferable to it looking into the dark area.

As others have mentioned, great capture of the subject itself!

With the percentage of shots I discard I'm ever so thankful for digital.

the Tamron lens comes to focus just outside of their fright and flight zone which makes for a nicely detailed shot.

The background doesn't bother me either Brian,

At the risk of repeating words that others have used; fascinating detail you have captured there.

    Not bored, Dave

Like Mike, the background does not bother me, it is sufficiently blurred and the beast is super clean

Thanks for all the comments and the input. Seems to me that the opinions are well split on the bg. I'll take this as a compliment to an unusual bg. I'm going to play7 around a bit with this shot. I like that the bg adds to the strong vertical component.
