Eggistential crisis - a death in the family

I like the way your mind is developing young Blodwyn. I actually have an international patent on stupid ideas but I will gladly let you work under licence.

It's funny the things you do when you are bored in Wales
At least you are not terrorising pensioners outside the village off licence and vandalising the road signs. Actually vandalising road signs has official sanction in Wales.

    Day 14: October 2010 PAD

Canon 50D, EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM, f/8, 1/8s, ISO 800, on a monopod. Full EXIF, PAD slideshow.

There's a Civil War era fort in Key West that's now a museum, East Martello. One of the prime attractions is a doll named Robert, and the legend is that he causes bad things to happen, especially if he's photographed without being asked. Being a skeptic, I took this as a challenge, so I put my best lens on my best camera body, and took this photo of Robert. Everything is still functioning, but I'll let everyone know if it breaks later.

You can read a bit about Robert here. It says in part:

Visitors who dare to take his picture without introducing themselves and asking his permission often find that their camera malfunctions. The image is often blurred or even blacked out.

I didn't ask permission, but any blurring in the image is my fault.

    C&C are always welcome.

    Cheers,
    Rick

Well done Kay. Sometime you need to take step back (so to speak) to move forward. Concentratng on getting your confidence with people 'outside of those you must obey' is really good. My only comment is that I think the books in the front of the subjects look out of place for this style of shot.

Not sure where I acquired this adjustable spanner (wrench) but it looks agricultural. The wooden non slip handle is uncommon.
My grandfather was a boiler maker had a spanner exactly like this. I still ahve it and use it regularly. It still works great and I cherish it.

    Day something or other....

I just have to make it to Sunday and, then, life turns right side up again. There's just too much fun around here at the moment. The idea with these photos is just to share what's out my door and to fulfill my "snap" for the day. I've tried and tried to put it into a photo - it's just something that I have to enjoy with my own senses.

    Day 14: October 2010 PAD

Actually, in this next shot, you can just see peeking out from behind the post our pagan altar where we sacrifice burnt marshmallow offerings to the god of summer fun. I think that we may have given up, though.

    Re: Night Shot

Many thanks Donald for your comments. As you say a few paces to the right would give a head on and I intend to take a re-shoot. To get that will be awkward as the building is elevated from where I composed the shot because of a tidal estuary and I had to take the shot at an angle because of the elevation and being there at the wrong time of tide.
I raised the centre column of my tripod as much as I dare and in the process of tightning the lock butterfly nut something gave and I will see if I can fix it or modify it.
The settings I used where Shutter Speed 8 sec,f/11,ISO200,the editing software I use is Photoshop Elements 7,and I did PP in ACR.

    Thanks Again Best Wishes
    Pat

The top of the boxes are a little fussy and it could be fixed by making the inner frame of the box the white border.

    Nice work Kay

I really wasn't sure about the wee bit of the next shelf with the mags - I wondered if cropping it out lost the effect that there are lots of 'boxes' so left it in - but you're right it's probably not enough to show there are more 'boxes' and so better off out.....

also on the clothes thing - watch this space - the yr 12 (leavers this year) are finishing up on Thursday, so tradition has it, that on Wednesday they swap uniforms with a mate of the contra-gender......
Pity the poor bloke who swaps with Fashionista, she's only 5 ft tall

I often wonder how you would portray 'texture' in a photograph?

Thanks Donald - I figured that's what PAD is for, so I'm having a go.......
of course after I'd released my lab rats...I thought of having them back to back and sort of looking around at each other to see who was in the next 'box' as it were.

Katy- It looks like you have a nice New England spread. I love this of year up there. To bad I am stuck in sunny Fl. It must be getting chilly by now. Nice pics also.

    Waterloo, gateway to hell.

Went into London tonight to see an art exhibition in some tunnels under Waterloo station. I took these on the way in, they proved to be a fitting prelude to the artistic visions of hell that I found in the tunnels..I'll post one of those tomorrow !

    Pete

PS if you put 'Waterloo and Hells half acre' into google you will see what Im talking about.

Back in business - sort of. After putting my computer back together I decided to make a change to my workflow. I'm moving from Linux only to Windows using Lightroom3, Transfer NX, and only shooting RAW. Struggling with the changes at the moment, but managed to get this uploaded, though I'm unsure how to get the same post-processing results that were so easy just a couple days ago.

I like these. It's tough to convey the intensity of the foliage sometimes. I found that using a circular polarizer on my lens really makes a huge difference in bringing out the colors.

    Sunrise?

Missed Day 13, so thought I'd better make an effort to cover Day 14, even if taken in the early hours of Day15
