HDR needs to be in small doses for me but I quite liked how this one turned out. The frigate is now permanently moored as an exhibit in the Copenhagen Naval Museum. The BG was separated from the FG and slightly desaturated before the HDR was applied.

The hull looks not natural if it were mine I'd keep hte original color of it. Superstructures are not concerned (IMO).

I really liked it as a creative variation of the reality

HDR has given this scene a colored pencil look.

I like the frigate but the roof is very hard for me to look at. One maybe two seconds and I have to look away. This could certainly just be my old eyes.

John...your processing looked 3D with the frigate almost detached from the background. More artsy like what John (Shadowman) had in his comments. (+1) Do I like it? In small doses, yes.

    Pleasingly different John.

I found that a dose of noise reduction gave it a slight softening and then easier on the eyes.

Thanks for the additional comments all. It's one of those things you don't see until someone points it out. You're right Grahame, softening it slightly helps. I've also tried a bit of Gaussian blur and killing the roof/hull highlights a bit as in:
