I wanted to photograph Jupiter when it made its close pass by the moon but the weather didn't cooperate. Tonight the sky was clear, the moon was shining bright.

Even hand held it was an easy target. Jupiter was more elusive, light pollution and a strong breeze made keeping the camera still near impossible. I tried delayed shutter and the best I could do was this:

Jupiters moons can be seen but a three second exposure introduced too much shake, alas Af couldn't cut it and MF was difficult to say the least - even with 3X magnification. The camera was on auto - I would probably have done better with full manual and 2-second delay.

A nice picture of the moon. At least in your Jupiter pic you can see some of Jupiter's moons.

Plus bulb setting. I wonder if one can do handheld with bulb setting. There is a stance where you turn sideways and putting your camera on your shoulder that will keep your camera stable than keeping your elbows close to your side stance. I was viewing a tutorial of Mike Hagen (of Nikonians/Creative Live) about Nikon Focusing System and he demonstrated several of them. Maybe this is for people who forgot to bring their tripod or lazy to bring their tripod to a shoot.

Thanks for the ideas Izzie. I will wait until the new moon and try again with a tripod set in concrete. I'll also increase the MF to 6 or 8X to try to get things sharp. F11 and about 4 seconds should get the moons of Jupiter. I can use bulb control via my phone - but anything longer than a few seconds will result in a star trail.

Does this mean that you can shoot tethered via your phone? What software do you use? What camera do you use? Have you heard of Case Air Wireless tethering? Have you tried it yet? Too many questions...
