North Yorkshire Moors Railway

Spent a few days in Whitby a couple of weeks ago. It is the terminus for some of the North Yorkshire Moore's rail excursions. The line was only about 500yards from the cottage that we rented and so................ Comments welcome.

Looks good. Maybe for absolute perfection I would have liked to see just a tiny bit more space on the left side? But possibly that would bring in a problem with the roof line, so I would be more than happy with the current image.

I never thought I would ever see a railroad stop sign that would be so nicely integral to a scene. I get the impression from seeing this image that it is post-processed exactly as you want it. That's because all of the details about the post-processing are so consistent throughout the image. I can't say that about a lot of images made in this style.

You might want to crop on the right side just enough to prevent the end of the train from being seen to allow the viewer to wonder how long it is. On the other hand, if you want to show the viewer how long the train is, you would understandably not crop it.

A bit of pixel-peeping reveals that, compared to the leading carriage, the following carriages are going out of perspective. And, if the tracks were straight they should continue on out of the image; instead they just disappear before that and a pile of stuff is where they would be if straight.

Thanks all for the comments. Ted is right. Whitby railway station is just around the bend to the left. If you Google Whitby at street level, I was at the end of the car park near Coates Marine Ltd on the foot crossing. Surprisingly, the driver gave us (two of us) a friendly burst of steam for the shot then told us off for being inside the crossing gate. The crop is a bit tight but you will see on the map that a very large supermarket sits beside the track towards the station and I didn't want to include it. More space at the front might have been worth while but sadly, not one of the several shots that I took have enough room to do that.

Thanks all for the comments. Ted is right. Whitby railway station is just around the bend to the left. Maybe you should have a more wider angle lens to take the shot then zoomed out some to get what you want...It is a nice shot though and good processing. I like that the engineer humoured you with some burst of steam. He knows you will not do any harm being too close.

Peter if you are going to chase some steam, I was advised by the gentleman who runs ticket office in Whitby that the area around Beck Hole is worth a trip because the engines are working hard on the climb up to Goathland station. Didn't have time to explore the area myself but for what it is worth........................

Thanks for the suggestion Izzie but I think that a wider lens might have diminished the impact of the engine in the frame and that was more important.
