Video editing with Photoshop CC ?

I knew my 7D Mk II had a video option but I had never even bothered to think about using it. Then I thought, one day this might be handy to have so I ought to know how to use it.

Not too difficult to shoot something basic as an example. But how about editing the result?

So I went to my old editing software (Serif Video Plus 5) but it wouldn't even recognise the modern formats. This meant a bit of thinking would be necessary. I wouldn't need anything for fancy effects, just basic good quality cutting out and stitching together.

After a bit of brain boiling, I remembered CS5 had a basic video editor so what about CC and after a bit of looking around the CC options I found the video editor section.

But how to use it? No instructions so I went to my old CS5 book which doesn't mention video.

So does anybody know where there are written instructions for using this video editor? Plenty of video tutorials but they are a waste of time with me. Somebody says do this then that as they frantically move around the screen and it all goes straight over my head! Nothing has sunk in when I return to my own screen. I need proper written advice which I can access at my own speed and keep returning to the things which are confusing me.

I will willingly purchase a basic book if such a thing exists. All I have found so far is a few simple lines from a site called Photography Life.

I understand what you mean Geoff about trying to remember everything after watching a video tutorial and there's no access for books here so my method is to open PS and the video next to one another, watch just a short sequence, stop the video and then do the same operation in PS. Repeat.

This was a video I found that does not go too fast https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/ho...o-editing.html

I have a Chromebook in addition to my desktop computer. When I need to follow a YouTube or other video instruction, I have the Chromebook open right next to my computer. I the case of Photoshop CC, I can follow along on the Chromebook while working with Photoshop CC on my desktop computer.

I also use my Chromebook to read Kindle books. Tony and Chelsea Northrup have an excellent Photoshop CC Essentials for Photographers Kindle book available for ten U.S. Dollars. Unfortunately it doesn't include video editing in Photoshop...

I did a search of Kindle Books on Photoshop
    https://smile.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb...+video+editing

Digital Video with Adobe Creative Cloud Classroom in a Book 1st Edition, Kindle Edition
    https://smile.amazon.com/Digital-Vid...+video+editing
This book runs $41.07 (USD) in the Kindle edition and only $18.49 in paperback.

My Copy of Photoshop CC classroom in a book 2015 release has only 17 pages on video editing...

Here is some more information about video editing with Adobe Photoshop...

That book, Richard, looks like another of those cases where there is a massive difference between American and UK prices! Checked on Amazon UK and the printed form is from £45 and with up to 2 months delivery.

Perhaps that would be delivered from USA by rowing boat.

I have now printed out the Photography Life article which will hopefully give me a basic grounding after which, when I start to feel more confident, I will have a glimpse at the video tutorials.

No rush so something to have a play around with on the next wet and windy day.

    Thanks for the help.

Re: Video editing with Photoshop CC ?

I have been experimenting with varied results.

Shooting definitely requires a tripod. Care and thought is required over selecting suitable shooting settings to match the scene etc.

Managed to finally make partial sense of editing. But one problem. There is unwanted camera noise and audio from many sources and the audio track appears to be embedded with the video without any way of separating them to remove the audio.

I can mute it during editing but when I render the video the noise/audio returns.

There is a work around which I discovered. Use an external microphone but turn it off. In reality, it appears that all which is required is a blank microphone plug inserted into the external microphone socket.

Will have to carry a blank plug with me. I wondered why my backpack had so many little pouches.
