Lake Huron Beach Scenes and an Aurora

I travelled to Owen Sound last week with a photography group and we were lucky enough to see an aurora. I have seen auroras before when I lived in Northwestern Ontario, but was never able to photograph one. This one did not have any purples but the green colour was still quite nice. The beach scenes were taken in Bayfield on the the eastern shore of Lake Huron. Any comments or critiques are most welcome.

Nice series Suzan, I like the inclusion of the town/village lights in the first Image. That is one laid back dog in the last picture, well captured.

Nice set of images Suzan. 2 and 4 stand out for me. 3 is curiously blue but I quite lie the pastel effect so I wouldn't suggest a change.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I agree that number 3 is "curiously blue" and I have no idea why that would happen. The shot was taken around sunset at about a 90 degree angle from the setting sun. I checked my lightroom settings again and nothing was done to the colour palette. The shadows were lifted and the highlights reduced, but that was about it???? What would make the camera colour it in such a way?

How lucky you got to see the lights - I rather like the graininess in the green sky and then the sharpness of the shore. It feels true to life. Nice photos all. I think the blue in 3 supports the day is almost done feeling of that image.

Can you remember what the scene and the colour looks like before, when you took the shoot and after? I remember on our trip from Missouri to Reno (Nevada), seeing the most beautiful and amazing changing of colours happening before my eyes as the day turns from morning to noon to afternoon and the colours in between sunsets before turning in to a hotel for the night. I took some photos despite my sore eyes (another story) and I can swear that it was the most beautiful colours I have ever seen in my life so far. My photos did not do it justice...the blues, the pinks and purples are out of this world.

Hi Izzie I agree that Mother Nature provides the most amazing colours that we will never be able to reproduce with our cameras. Your trip to that area of the US would certainly have been in one of the most beautiful landscapes in the country. I recall that there would have been some "bluey" tones in my beach photo as it was close to sunset. There were also pinks in the sky. I am guessing that the camera exaggerated the colours or chose a white balance that was on the blue side
