    The underlying cause is misalignment of the insects compound eye relative to the sensor grid. That's it. Nailing focus certainly makes it more obvious but most processing software recognizes chromatic aberration and moire as problems and correct for them with varying degrees of success

    Thanks for taking time to comment. Sadly the link was a pain in the you know what due to insertion of a stupid Captcha step which incorporated an unreadable set of images.

    The matter of why this particular image out of at least 20 that match in body, lens and degree of magnification is the only one showing the issue is not answered by the explanation of the underlying cause. I have looked again at the original and tweaked the NEF development in line with Ted's focus suggestion and it resulted in an acceptable image with no moire, so I'm happy.

    Thanks to Ted's suggestions, I took another look at Capture One's toolset and discovered that there is a moire editing tool. It worked.
