    Lighting up the Transporter

Yet again it's just too wet here today for me to be pottering in the garden, so I decided to have a look back through my archived pictures and revisit one or two. This one is from October 2011, taken during the centenary celebrations of the opening of the Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge.

For those of a certain age who may remember the TV program, I can confirm that this bridge is still where it has always been and it was never ever transported a to and rebuilt across the Grand Canyon by the cast of "Auf Wiedersehen Pet".

I made this image using a 50D and a Sigma 10-20mm lens at 10mm the Exif was ISO100, f13, 94 seconds!. I sometimes wish I had a lens that wide for my 5D3.

As always your thoughts and comments are most welcome.

Your choices of white balance and color balance result in a display of cool tones on the subject that nicely complement the warm tones mostly everywhere else. This helps draw the viewer's eye to the subject.

Focus seems soft on the bow of that boat. Subject movement?

It could be something to do with a 90 second exposure :-)).
Looking at other images taken the same evening it would seem the boat was moving fore and aft during the exposure

    Nice picture Peter,

I also enjoyed 'travelling on it' a year or two ago, since you do that, rather than 'cross it', as you'll know.

    Cheers, Dave

Thanks Dave, historically you could cross it. But that meant that you had to climb the steps walk across the top and then descend the steps at the other side.
Since I made this image a lift has been added to the structure to enable people with mobility problems to get to the top.
As with a lot of structures like this there are organised bungee jump zip wire rides, not regularly on this bridge and when they are held it is generally for charity.
I keep promising myself to have a trip on to the top with my camera, a bucket list item that I hope to do this year.

I can't see how it could be otherwise. It's a cracking shot Peter. Don't know why you would keep it hidden for so long.

Thanks John I'm pleased you like it. It wasn't really hidden John, as I do have a framed version hanging on a wall at home. That version has been place since shortly after I made the image, time for a change maybe . The version here was really just me looking back in my archive and processing an image or two on a rainy day.
